Ole Miss travels to New Orleans to take on No. 24 Tulane in what should be a great matchup in Week 2.

It’s certainly not Ole Miss’ typical evaluation game, as head coach Lane Kiffin put it this past week. The Rebels face off against a Green Wave squad that is well-coached by Willie Fritz and has a true star at QB in Michael Pratt, who led the Green Wave over USC last year in the Cotton Bowl and threw for 4 touchdowns on 14/15 passing last week against South Alabama.

And not to mention, this game is at their place. It’s no Bryant-Denny Stadium, but the Green Wave get the luxury of familiarity instead of having to travel to a huge SEC stadium with some of the best fans in college football.

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) projects every college football game of the 2023 season and has the Rebels winning fairly comfortably against the Green Wave. The metric gives the Rebels a 77.3% chance of victory Saturday afternoon.

That’s honestly a little surprising that the FPI has that much confidence in the Rebels. Not because of their talent, mind you, but because it almost always favors ranked home teams. Or at the very least, it gives them better than a 23% chance of victory. Of course, Tulane being a G5 school can knock that back a bit.

Jaxson Dart is where everything starts with the Rebels in 2023. He had an excellent campaign against Mercer last week, but now it’s time to do it against some worthy competition.

The game is set to kick at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
