Shea Patterson announced Monday that he is leaving Oxford and is headed to Michigan.

Patterson, a former five-star QB from the class of 2016, had a strong year for the Rebels before suffering a season-ending knee injury against LSU. The following emergence of QB Jordan Ta’amu with the offense and sanctions handed down from the NCAA led to Patterson’s transfer.

He heads to a Michigan program that has received a lot of hype with Jim Harbaugh at the helm but has yet to win a Big 10 Championship during his time there. Adding a talented QB like Patterson could change that. Patterson has thrown for 3,139 yards and 23 TDs in 10 career games with the Rebels.

Kirk Herbstreit weighed in on Patterson’s decision and called it a “big time pickup” for Michigan:

It should be noted that Patterson did play as a freshman, but he only appeared in three games following an injury to Chad Kelly. It is also unclear if he will be eligible to play immediately in 2018, though Patterson will likely petition the NCAA in order to be declared eligible.

Still, there is no denying that Patterson is a talented signal caller and could have a major impact with the Wolverines.
