Ole Miss travels to Death Valley to take on rival LSU Saturday night.

Let’s take a look inside some of the numbers of the Rebels 7-0 start.

The Good

15: The number of interceptions Ole Miss has recorded. The secondary has anchored the Landsharks this season, and they’ve been led by the best safety/cornerback duo in the country in Cody Prewitt and Senquez Golson. The two possess incredible ball skills; the Rebels lead the SEC in passes defended.

97.1: The number of rushing yards Ole Miss is allowing per game. That’s good for sixth nationally, and is highlighted by an effort last week over Tennessee when the Rebels didn’t allow a single rushing yard. If Ole Miss can slow LSU’s vaunted rushing attack led by freshman Leonard Fournette, this game could get out of hand quickly.

10: The number of turnovers lost by Ole Miss. That includes six Bo Wallace interceptions. This week’s task of going into Death Valley at night is a tough one. Of any environment the Rebels will play in, this one is most likely to rattle their cages and force Wallace and company into mistakes.

The Bad

151.3: The number of rushing yards the Ole Miss run game is averaging on the season. The Rebels have been one-dimensional on offense this season, especially against good defenses. LSU has a very good secondary and will force Ole Miss to run the ball to beat them. The Rebels need to have some success on the ground to take pressure off of Wallace and an offensive line that has struggled to protect him at times.

44: The percentage of third downs Ole Miss is converting this season. This continues to be problem area for the Rebels; Tennessee forced them to eight consecutive three and outs to open the game. If LSU can replicate the same kind of success, this game could be close well into the second half.

4.3: Ole Miss is dead last in the SEC and near the bottom of the NCAA in punt return average. True freshman Markell Pack has handled the majority of the return duties for Hugh Freeze, and he’s struggled. Often does he fair catch inside his team’s 20-yard line. Pack can’t make defenders miss, and has had little success returning when opponents have good coverage.
