Lane Kiffin was baffled that Mississippi State let go of Zach Arnett as quickly as it did.

Arnett was fired by the program after 11 games. Arnett’s tenure started with the ReliaQuest Bowl and ended with a 51-10 loss to Texas A&M.

Kiffin reminisced on how things used to be in college football, where coaches were given time to build things up. Kiffin stated that fast firings are “in” for college football.

“It used to be you had time to build things, you had years to sign classes and see them develop before people made decisions. It’s obviously not what’s going on,” said Kiffin. “I don’t know how you do that that fast, or how the expectation is to judge you that fast about the job you did. Unfortunately, it’s kind of the ‘in’ thing to fire people fast. To me it’s a lot of grass is always greener.”

This means that Kiffin will be coaching against interim Greg Knox in the Egg Bowl. Arnett won’t be able to experience the rivalry game as a head coach sadly.

Arnett coached the Bulldogs to a 4-6 record with Southern Miss and the Rebels left on the schedule.
