Ole Miss announces junior RB Eric Swinney will miss first 3 weeks of season
Ole Miss recently released a Week 1 depth chart that has junior Scottie Phillips as the starter at running back, but he’ll be without his top backup against Texas Tech.
According to news that broke on Tuesday, fellow junior RB Eric Swinney will miss the first three weeks of the season.
The reason? Apparently Swinney is dealing with a bout of mononucleosis:

As a sophomore in 2017, Swinney ran for 195 yards and three touchdowns while backing up Jordan Wilkins.
Phillips won the job out of fall camp, but Swinney was still going to be counted on to provide depth, so his presence will certainly be missed as he recovers from illness.
At first, I got a little worried. But then I remembered our offense will only be on the field for a couple seconds on each drive anyways. The defense will more than likely be on the field 80% of the game, giving up 31 point leads.
Scottie Phillips will have plenty of time to rest on the bench while the defense is out there.
Well aren’t you the positive one… Yes our Defense has issues at least on paper, but until they play the game who knows what they will be this year.
My opinion isn’t foreshadowed by pessimism. It’s widely known our defense was on the field WAYYY more than they needed to be. Whose fault is that, by the way?
Ole Miss’
I truly hope this year is different because if I’m noticing OMs’ downfall from my couch, the coaching staff ought to know it too.
Best wishes to the youngster. He’s had an incredibly rough career at Ole Miss. Get well soon.
