The biggest thing left to play for in the Egg Bowl is Mississippi State’s chance at a bowl game. So playing spoiler is top of mind for the Rebels as they travel to Starkville for the game.
As the Ole Miss hype video below suggests, this game has loads of memories and highlights from over the years.
The Bulldogs (5-6, 2-5 SEC) need a win over Ole Miss (4-7, 2-5) to become eligible for a 10th straight bowl appearance.
โKids are aware of it,โ Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead said of the streak. โItโs not something we really even have to talk about. Weโre on the cusp of bowl eligibility and we got to win this one to get to the postseason. I donโt believe in feeling pressure, but I do believe in applying pressure. We have to make sure we play well, and if we do that, we get to extend the season.โ
Mississippi State has won two of the past three Egg Bowls, including a 35-3 decision at Ole Miss last season.
Ole Miss has a 22-14-3 record in Egg Bowls held at Mississippi State. The road team has won the last four meetings.
โItโs a huge game for the state of Mississippi,โ Ole Miss coach Matt Luke said. โBragging rights, recruiting, good family and friends that have split ties. This is a state thatโs very passionate about its football and we have a chip on our shoulder to show we can compete. Itโs special to the state.โ
