Ole Miss is working on reloading the roster for the 2023 season and had previously landed a commitment in the transfer portal from one wide receiver out of Jackson State. Unfortunately, the Rebels will not be adding that player after all.

Friday evening, WR Shane Hooks announced via social media that he was reopening his time in the transfer portal:

“I want to take this time to thank coach Kiffin, Coach Nix and the entire Ole Miss coaching staff for their consideration,” wrote Hooks. “While this has been a difficult process, I have decided to decommit from Ole Miss and re-open my recruitment.”

During the 2022 season, Hooks was Jackson State’s leader in catches (64), receiving yardage (748) and receiving touchdowns (10). At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Hooks has elite size on the outside and could have been a deep play threat for Lane Kiffin’s offense.

While Hooks’ next move has not been revealed yet, there is a fair amount of speculation that he could reunite with his former head coach Deion Sanders at Colorado. “Coach Prime” and the Buffs are still in the process of a massive overhaul of the roster heading into the 2023 season.
