Quinshon Judkins made waves this offseason, hitting the transfer portal and moving to Ohio State after a pair of dynamic seasons at Ole Miss.

Judkins’ departure took some of the shine off a rather strong portal push for Lane Kiffin’s program. Ole Miss has reloaded with huge sights set on the 2024 season, but the running back position will not be the same while the Buckeyes get a major playmaker for the offense.

During his first media appearance at Ohio State, Judkins said part of the move to Columbus was to play for “something that’s bigger than yourself.” The Buckeyes will undoubtedly be among the favorites in the 2024 national championship odds, but it’s also worth pointing out Ole Miss will likely open 2024 as a top-10 team.

“The idea of coming to a team where you’re playing for something that’s bigger than yourself,” said Judkins about the Buckeyes. “A lot of great players have come here as you’ve seen through the portal this year. I think when you come together for a cause that’s bigger than yourself, you have great players around you and you want to win. And that’s what it’s all about.”

Judkins did reflect on his time at Ole Miss and said he did great things and learned a lot there. But, moving forward, he wanted to be somewhere with a combination of great culture, players and coaches.

“I’ve done some great things at Ole Miss and I’ve learned a lot. But just for me in my 3rd year, you want to be somewhere like a place like Ohio State with great culture, great teammates, great coaches, the best players and the best fanbase,” Judkins explained. “You want to win it.”

As for the emotions of the move, Judkins said he’s learned not everyone will understand the decisions you make, but that hasn’t diminished his excitement to be with the Buckeyes.

“Man, it was crazy, a lot of different things — a lot of different emotions. But it’s a business, you understand people won’t always be happy for the decisions you make for yourself, but I’m just excited to be here and do what I can to win it all,” said Judkins.
