While everyone obsesses with former Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell’s speed, a similar wideout from the SEC has already made a name for himself in the NFL.

Former NFL player and scout Bucky Brooks was on NFL Now to discuss Treadwell’s potential and compared him to former South Carolina wideout and current Chicago Bears Pro Bowler Alshon Jeffery.

Similar to Treadwell, Jeffery was also knocked for not having the head-turning jets that some may want out of an elite receiver.

Also like Treadwell, Jeffery elected not to participate at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2012. However, he ran a 4.48 and a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash at South Carolina’s pro day, a time that many believe Treadwell could come close to.

“Alshon Jeffery is a guy that he doesn’t necessarily create consistent separation from defenders, but he’s so spectacular,” Brooks said. “He has great hands, does a great job of winning 50-50 balls that it doesn’t matter that people are always draped on him.

“Laquon Treadwell has similar skills, similar traits. I believe that he can mirror and duplicate what Alshon Jeffery has done for the Chicago Bears thus far in his career.”

Despite the similarities, Treadwell will likely be taken in the first round while Jeffery was drafted in the second round (45th overall) by the Bears back in 2012.

It’s worth noting that Jeffery, at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, is a little bigger than Treadwell at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds.

Still, Brooks was clear in saying that Treadwell is a “classic No. 1 receiver.”
