Ulysses Bentley IV became the latest big-time running back transfer to land in the SEC West.

On Wednesday, the former SMU running back, who led the American Athletic Conference in rushing in 2020, announced he committed to Ole Miss. Bentley started 14 games the last 2 seasons. Bentley joins TCU transfer Zach Evans to form what appears to be a very formidable backfield in Oxford.

In 2021, Bentley was second on SMU’s roster with 610 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. In 3 seasons with the Mustangs, Bentley rushed for more than 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 41 receptions for 294 yards and 2 touchdowns receiving during his SMU career.

The Houston native will be a junior entering the fall. He played at SMU under coach Sonny Dykes, who left in late November to become TCU’s coach.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Bentley, a 3-star recruit in 2019, redshirted his first season at SMU but impressed in his second. As a redshirt freshman, Bentley had 170 carries for 913 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He led the American Athletic Conference in rushing that season and earned all-conference honors, marking the first of two times he’d accomplish that feat at SMU.

Here’s a glimpse at what he can do on the field:
