If you ever wondered what was the origin of Ole Miss’ “Fins Up” battle cry called “The Landshark,” the latest episode of “The Season” will address it.

“The Season” is a weekly show aired regionally that covers stories in and around Ole Miss football.

A trailer for the show explains how Tony Fein came up with the move, and how it spread around campus to other sports. Former star basketball player Marshall Henderson is shown throwing a “Fins Up” on the court.

The Landshark can trace its origin to Houston Nutt’s first year coaching Ole Miss in 2008. Led by standouts Peria Jerry, Greg Hardy and Jerrell Powe, the Rebels defense ascended to No. 4 in the nation. Ole Miss capped its 9-4 season with a 47-34 victory over Texas Tech in the 2009 Cotton Bowl.

At the heart of the defense was Fein, a senior linebacker Tony Fein. In two seasons in Oxford, Fein wrapped up 136 tackles, including eight of them for a loss. He finished third on the team in tackles that season, but he’s perhaps most known for the celebration that became all the rage.
