When Super Bowl LII kicks off in Minneapolis on Sunday night, there will be a total of 19 former SEC players on the active rosters.

The New England Patriots have 10 ex-SEC athletes, while the Philadelphia Eagles boast nine. However, not all of the players who have reached the NFL’s pinnacle were equal coming out of high school.

As you can see below, there were no former 5-star players on either team’s roster, but there are a total of eight 4-star recruits who will suit up in the big game (all rankings via 247Sports):

5 stars:

  • None

  • Ricky Jean-Francois, DL, LSU (New England)
  • Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida (New England)
  • Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina (New England)

  • Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State (Philadelphia)

Interestingly, Philadelphia has the edge when it comes to former 4-star SEC athletes, with five compared to New England’s three.

Will those former 4-star athletes decide the game on Sunday night? That remains to be seen, but the matchup should be fun to watch.
