The expectations placed on five-star recruits once they arrive on campus continue to skyrocket each and every year but just because a prospect is rated as one of the best players in the nation coming out of high school doesn’t guarantee them anything once they get to campus.

Turns out, it doesn’t impress the NFL, either.

Case in point, seven former five-star recruits went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft and following the flurry of undrafted free agent signings, six of these players have yet to even sign with a club for training camp.

That may be an even bigger revelation than them going undrafted.

Incredibly, two of these players were signed by Ole Miss in the 2016 recruiting cycle (Shea Patterson and Benito Jones) while Blake Barnett signed with Alabama out of high school before ultimately transferring out of Tuscaloosa not long into his college career.

These are the seven players that were rated as five-star recruits that did not get selected in the 2020 NFL Draft:

QB Shea Patterson

DL Benito Jones

QB Blake Barnett

CB Levonta Taylor

LB Keisean Lucier-South

WR George Campbell

DL Oluwole Betiku Jr.

Of those undrafted players, only Taylor has landed a free agent contract. The former five-star prospect was signed by the Los Angeles Rams following the conclusion of the 2020 NFL Draft, while the rest of these players are just hoping to do the same before training camps open around the NFL.
