At this point in August, I think it’s fair to say that all 14 fan bases are ready to see some SEC football.

But the fans of some schools appear to be especially antsy to get the 2015 season underway.

Here’s a look at why five of them may just be a tad more excited than the rest:

Tennessee

Vols fans may be the most anxious bunch in the entire league. Tennessee finished the 2014 season winning four of its last five games, including a 45-28 victory against Iowa in the TaxSlayer Bowl in January for the Vols first bowl win since the 2007 season. With most of the key contributors returning from that team, as well as another highly-rated class of freshman arriving on campus this fall, the expectation levels are through the roof in Knoxville. Picked to finish second in the SEC East behind Georgia based on preseason voting, the Vols may have their first opportunity to seriously compete for a SEC East title for the first time in eight seasons.

Arkansas

While the injury to star RB Jonathan Williams has put a damper on this fall camp, the Razorbacks are still a pretty excited bunch heading into the 2015 season. After struggling mightily in his first season in Fayetteville (3-9, 0-8 SEC), third-year coach Bret Bielema’s team showed huge improvement in his second season in 2014 (7-6, 2-6), indicating that his game plan for transforming the Razorbacks from a Bobby Petrino-style passing offense to a Big Ten-style rushing attack may just work out after all. Arkansas defeated Texas in the Texas Bowl last season, and is looking to build off that momentum to make a push at being a contender in the SEC West this season.

Auburn

The 2014 Auburn football season spiraled out of control following a promising 7-1 start, with the Tigers dropping four of their last five games. The disappointing finish prompted changes for head coach Gus Malzahn, which ultimately resulted in the hiring of former Florida head coach Will Muschamp as the new Tigers defensive coordinator. With one “Coach Boom” as one of the league’s top playcallers on the offensive side of the ball, and the other “Coach Boom” as one of the league’s top defensive minds coordinating the defense, optimism is at an all-time high on The Plains. Add in a new quarterback to watch in Jeremy Johnson, and the Tigers fans are primed for the season to begin.

Mississippi State

Dak-a-Mania is officially running wild over Starkville. The Bulldogs fans got a taste of being one of college football’s premier programs, holding the No. 1 spot in the polls last November. And with the return of QB Dak Prescott for his senior season, you get the feeling that they are anticipating more of the same. The media does not share the same optimism, predicting Mississippi State to finish last a loaded SEC West division this season. Many Bulldogs fans have taken it as a sign of disrespect and disbelief in the progress Mississippi State has made under Dan Mullen, making this fan base on of the antsiest for kickoff in the league.

Georgia

It has been a full decade since Georgia was last crowned as the SEC champion. Is this the season that the Bulldogs break through and capitalize on a weaker than usual SEC East and make a run at the College Football Playoff? Perhaps. Georgia fans are excited to see what sophomore RB Nick Chubb can do with a full season ahead of him, and there is optimism that the SEC East can again belong to the Bulldogs after two consecutive years of Missouri earning a spot in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. Adding to the intrigue and anticipation for Bulldogs fans is Georgia’s first real quarterback competition in several years.
