Earlier today, a Clemson player made the biggest bonehead play of the day. While the play is bad, here are five plays from recent history in college football that are potentially even worse.

1 – Utah player drops ball, Oregon runs it back 99 yards

Similar to the Clemson play, this Utah player drops the ball just before crossing over the goal line. Unlike the Clemson game, the opposing team picked the ball up and ran it 99 yards for a touchdown. Yikes.

2 – The famous Leon Lett Thanksgiving Day oops

The 1993 Thanksgiving Day game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins is famous because of a single Leon Lett play. Dallas blocked a game-winning field goal attempt by the Dolphins at the end of regulation, but Leon Lett touched the ball giving the Dolphins another attempt. They made the second attempt and won the game. Check out the video below:

3 – Bill Gramatica blows out his ACL celebrating a field goal

Many of us remember the Gramaticas and their excessive on-field celebrations after making routine field goals. The celebration style came to an unfortunate end when Bill Gramatica shredded his knee during a celebration. Sure, we feel bad that he was injured, but you can’t help laugh at the play may years later.

4 – Leon Lett has ball stripped while celebrating

You know it’s rough when you make this list twice, but Lett’s second appearance is certainly warranted. Celebrating a touchdown before scoring the touchdown, Lett had the ball stripped. Amazing.

5 – Jim Marshall recovers fumble and runs it into the wrong endzone

We’re going back decades for this one, but it’s a classic.
