Nobody beats Nick Saban twice.

Well, almost nobody.

Since Saban rejoined the SEC in 2007 and launched Alabama’s decade of dominance, no single quarterback has beaten his Tide team twice. LSU’s Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee tag-teamed Saban twice, including the WWE-like 9-6 slugfest in 2011.

Tim Tebow beat Saban one time. So did Johnny Manziel and Cam Newton. Nick Marshall conquered the king once … just like Stephen Garcia and Matt Stafford, Matt Flynn and Bo Wallace, Wesley Carroll and Brandon Cox, Trevor Knight … and Chad Kelly.

Kelly on Saturday will try to become the first to beat Saban twice. (Knight will get his chance on Oct. 22.)

That’s not the only milestone the Ole Miss gunslinger is gunning for when the No. 19 Rebels host No. 1 Alabama at 3:30 ET Saturday.

Here are five other Saban standards within Kelly’s reach.

2. Become the 1st SEC QB tor throw for 300 yards twice against Saban

Kelly threw for 341 yards in last season’s wild 43-37 win in Tuscaloosa.

He’s one of just 10 quarterbacks to throw for more than 300 yards against Saban’s defense. Not that that total needs much perspective, but that’s the fewest allowed in the SEC over that span, despite the fact opponents are typically trailing and still throwing deep into the fourth quarter.

Manziel leads the way with 464 yards — which came in a loss. Actually, the top five on the list all lost. Kelly’s total ranks eighth, and he’s one of the four to top 300 in a win.

Saturday, he’ll take aim at becoming the first to go over 300 yards twice.

3. Throw the most career TD passes against Saban

Manziel also leads this category, with 7.

Remarkably, just one other quarterback reached 5, and that was Marshall, who threw 2 in the 2013 Kick Six upset and 3 a year later when Alabama rallied for a 55-44 win.

Kelly threw 3 against the Tide last year.

4. Throw the most TD passes in one game against Saban

Ole Miss fans would love to see this mark shattered.

Manziel threw 5 against Saban in A&M’s 2013 loss.

Knight, then with Oklahoma, and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson are the only other QBs to reach 4. Both of those came in the postseason.

5. Become the 3rd QB to throw for more than 600 career yards against Saban

Just eight QBs have topped 500 yards against Saban, and only Manziel (717) and Dak Prescott (630) rose above 600.

Ole Miss will be in serious trouble if Kelly doesn’t become the third. He’s just 259 yards away.

Can he catch Manziel? It’s possible. He’ll need to throw for 377 yards to pass him. His career-best against an SEC defense is 381, last year at Auburn.

6. Most pass attempts without an INT vs. Saban

Only one quarterback has thrown more than 50 career passes against Saban’s defense and escaped unscathed.

LSU’s Zach Mettenberger threw 58 in two games against Alabama without being intercepted.

Just three other QBs managed to reach 40 without throwing a pick.

Kelly threw 33 passes last season. He’s been saying all week that he has to keep it clean Saturday. Turnovers cost the Rebels dearly in the opener against Florida State.

Saying it on Monday in front of reporters is infinitely easier than doing it on Saturday in front of Tim Williams and Jonathan Allen.

Of all of these numbers, however, this might be the most important.

Ole Miss didn’t commit a single turnover against Alabama last season. If Kelly can repeat that performance, the Rebels have a chance to make history and become the first SEC team to beat Saban three consecutive times.
