Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll: Georgia grabs top spot as SEC, Big Ten programs dominate
The Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll is here, bringing the official start of the 2024 college football season one step closer!
Fans have already seen what the initial coaches’ poll rankings look like with Georgia on top of the heap and Ohio State right behind. To little surprise, the SEC and Big Ten dominated the coaches’ poll with 15 of the 25 total spots, and the preseason AP Poll looks very similar.
Georgia leads the way on the AP Poll, dominating the preseason numbers with 1,532 total points. Ohio State (1,490) and Oregon (1,403) were No. 2 and No. 3 behind the Bulldogs and the only other programs to eclipse 1,400 total points on the poll.
As for first-place votes, Kirby Smart’s UGA squad received 46 of the available top lines. Ohio State garnered 15 first-place votes and Oregon received a lone vote in the pole position.
The first 6 spots in the poll belong to SEC or Big Ten teams and 8 of the top 10 spots belong to the 2 leagues. Defending national champion Michigan checked in at No. 9 overall and did not register a first-place vote.
Fans will likely become used to seeing that layout in the major polls for the foreseeable future. The latest national championship odds from FanDuel have Georgia ahead of Ohio State at the top. Meanwhile, 8 of the top 10 teams in terms of odds to win the title hail from the new versions of the SEC and Big Ten. 12 of the top 15 spots also belong to the 2 power conferences. Fans can track the latest odds and get in on the action with SDS’s apps to bet on sports.

What’s the point of last seasons bowl game in regards to this season?
Absolutely nothing. He’s a mizzou fan though, it’s their best win in a long time.
fans to realize they still suck?
11-2 is better than what TN did. Oh and don’t forget the butt-kicking Mizzou laid on the Vols last year; I think Vandy put up a better fight.
What the Bowl win did was help Drink sell his program to transfers & recruits. Yes we lost several players to the draft, but we reloaded with talent.
We will let our wins do the talking.
Cody Schrader will not suit up for Missouri in 2024 per news reports. What else would you require to realize? Your coach is made fun of in polite circles and ridiculed in others. In a miracle season of perfect conditions an SEC East crown was still out of reach. What else would you require to realize?
What’s the O/U for weeks it will take for Missouri fans to realize they still suck?
“Still suck”?
11-2
36-7
I think Vols fans are starting to realize Mizzou football has surpassed them; why else would they be so bitter?
We have been in the conference for like 12 years or so and I can think of maybe 2/3 good seasons from the Vols. I have never seen them win our Division.
They are starting to sound like Hog fans; it is amusing :)
So definitely over week 0?
Do all the make believe ranking you want because we are just laughing at your sorry ignorance.
Don’t mess w Ron man. Retarded people don’t know they’re retarded. He is right though so don’t make a fool out of yourself lol. That bowl game was LAST YEAR and you guys lost a lot of key players just like our 2023 team did. I think mizzou takes a step back but the future is bright for you bumblebee tigers. The SEC saved you guys a trip to Knoxville so be thankful.
“Do all the make believe ranking you want because we are just laughing at your sorry ignorance.”
Learn English, she/her. Also, I didn’t say anything about the rankings. I asked a question about a bowl games relevance to pre-season rankings.

Vols?
Pretty sure that both Tennessee and LSU will be firmly in the Top-10 before mid-season, as there will be plenty of vacancies as time rolls on. Other than that, as jay.cardea says, it’s pretty irrelevant right now. The only thing I’d bet on is Georgia starting and finishing #1.
No one asked you to defend us gaytor.
Not defending anybody, Pardner – just giving my honest opinion like most everyone else at this pre-season point. You ought to try it sometime, instead of just mindlessly trolling and embarrassing your school.
What is a fanatic? This is a game. We’re not in the classroom. Trolling is fun as long as you don’t take it seriously lol.
Wise men speak because they have something to say, but fools speak because they think they have to say something. -Plato
I’m a self reserved person but when it comes to football; yes I’m a d@mn fool lol. You need to loosen up a bit doc but thanks for the quote though seriously it’s what I live by. Just not for college football lol.
I’m sure your parents are very proud of you; you sound like a wonderful guy at that.
I don’t know doc. Maybe, but I don’t see many of the top 10 losing much by midway. UGA, Tex, or Bama won’t fall out by losing to one another. IMO.
Yeah, I get that JTF – but in assessing both teams as best can, I think they’re a lot stronger than the “experts” credit them.
Yes, they may very be better. That’s always been the problem with polls. You can’t move up unless someone above you loses no matter how good you are.
well*
I think your last statement in the post directly above sums up our different expectations, JTF. I sustain that there will indeed be turbulence in the Top-10 by mid-season, and you don’t forecast any of significance. We’re speculating of course, but other than that I think we’re on the same sheet of music. Anyway, by the time that rolls around, the chances of me remembering what I said are slim, so feel free to rub it in even if I turn out to be correct! :)
If you’re right I will have forgotten the entire convo.
Get mad pup. I can hear your obnoxious barking from here.
I’m mad we won’t get the easy win anymore what with 7 in a row and 12 out of the last 15 lol. 1998
We won’t have a 40 year drought like y’all did lol. That had to be embarrassing. The Vols will win a NC before 2038.
3 in the last 50 years. Vols?
But congrats on almost reaching and celebrating a level of success that gets coaches at actual good schools fired. 1998
Dang you got me there but the past is the past. Those Natties most definitely will not win you one this year.
Someone is protesting too much. I just hope no one in Kirby’s program is responsible for any deaths this year. Georgia had more respect with Richt and no Championships. But 40 is a long time and very embarrassing, so i get it.
“We won’t have a 40-year drought like yall did”.
25 years without a championship of any kind… and counting.
You don’t realize this yet, but Tennessee is Ole Miss with a bigger stadium.
New Miss.
Preseason polls becoming more and more meaningless as the years go by.
What’s the O/U for weeks it will take for Missouri fans to realize they still suck?
As a long time Mizzou fan, I never get too optimistic, but you have to be the only person I’ve seen proud to openly admit to volunteer to pull the train.
There are some who still don’t realize.
The disrespect for KY is real. Wya Gators? The preseason voltard syndrome is in full effect but for good reason. Another 10-2 season is inevitable with at least 1 playoff win. The gump tooth fairies won’t have to worry abt us charging the field this year. That must’ve been terrifying.
If it ends this way Mizzou is out of the playoffs.
I feel for the teams ranked ahead of Tennessee and have to play them.
I feel sorry for all the women who are dependent on a UT “man” for seexual gratification; you can’t churn butter with a toothpick!!!
I feel sorry for whomever hired your writers.
Why? Georgia is typically ranked ahead of the Vols and typically wins and the one time in recent memory that wasn’t the case…well that probably still stings a bit for you Vols LOL
They can’t win. Take Georgia for example. Ranked ahead of Vols and must win to maintain place and momentum. If Georgia loses it will be catastrophic. If the Vols lose well, they gain momentum. If Tennessee wins, it will reverberate around the SEC and college football for longer than 1 season. I feel sorry for Georgia.
Lol, all the Hillbillies showing up and flapping their gums
I guess they better while they can, before UT plays UGA, UT, Oklahoma, UK etc
We’ve never been down this road before!!!!!
UT was going to win the SEC just before Brick-by-Brick got fired, UT was going to win the SEC just before Tater Head got fired …
Who heard this a couple of seasons ago – UT is ranked #1, CFP bound Jethro … UT is the best 1-loss team in the Nation, we’ll beat UGA in a rematch … oof, USCar just scored again
Where does Joe Milton keep his Heisman?
The TN trolls on here, just like you, reap what they sow but you dont seem to bother them much. And yeah your post reminds us of when uga was wandering through the natty desert for 40 years… and that gives us hope. Joe doesnt have a heisman but hes probably already got more dough than you, knucklehead.
I would say that UGA has never in it’s history “wandered in the desert” to the extent that UT has for the last 20 odd years. While not winning a title during the 40 year drought, in which UT won 1, the number of teams that were more successful can be counted on one hand.
You do realize im responding to one of tge two biggest trolls of UT right…?
Why respond if it’s going to be irrational? Better to ignore. IMO.
At least when the Dawgs are up we routinely beat the Gators.
Vols?
I remember truly feeling sorry for Georgia in the 90’s. And to imagine they were just on the front end of a historic 40 year journey (not in the desert) where they were almost as successful as 1 hand.
Agree, and it has taken a while after Fulmer to get UT back on track before now. When Georgia has wandered in the desert, it wasn’t for long before the ship was righted. You did a little bit in the 60’s after Wally Butts, but rather quickly brought in the irreplaceable Vince Dooley – maybe a little in the 90’s under Goff, but Donnan fixed it and IMO the last two hires were absolutely top notch.
Just what exactly does the Big 10 dominate? Two of the top 3. Not the top 6 or the top 10 or the top 20. Define dominate.
My prediction is that there’s going to be major movement in the top 10 (and top 15) by the end of September. I realize preseason polls are nothing more than an educated shot in the dark, but some of these rankings seem particularly bad.
Yeah they always are. Last year we were #11 I believe lmao but preseason speculation is still fun though. This season of college football is going to be crazy and I can’t wait.
I absolutely agree that this is going to be a crazy year — and I’m all for it. I personally don’t agree with all the changes to CFB the past few years, but at this point all you can do is just go with it and hope it’ll at least be entertaining. And in that regard, I can’t wait.
Some of these ranking DO seem particularly bad in this poll where we are at the top.
