Certain sports memories endure.

Things like Michael Jordan shooting over a fallen Bryon Russell in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, Boise State’s Ian Johnson scoring in overtime against Oklahoma to win the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, Babe Ruth of the Yankees calling his shot in the 1932 World Series. The list could go on and on.

Well, SEC football has had its fair share of memorable plays, too.

It would be too difficult to judge the best plays of all time in each program’s history. Narrowing it down to the past five years makes it easier and allows video to be provided for your entertainment.

Even shortening the time gap to five years, the teams had enough great plays that adding an honorable mention was necessary.

Without further ado, here are the best plays in the last five years for each SEC team:

Alabama

When: Jan. 11, 2016

Where: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ

Nick Saban electing to go with an onside kick in the 2016 CFP Championship Game was one of the guttiest calls in his career. It was perfectly placed by kicker Adam Griffith and caught easily by Marlon Humphrey near the sideline. The change of events proved vital in the fourth quarter, with tight end O.J. Howard catching a deep bomb from Jake Coker two plays later, helping Alabama win its fourth national championship under Saban.

Honorable mention: C.J. Mosley’s tip of Aaron Murray’s pass on the final play against Georgia in the 2012 SEC Championship Game.

Arkansas

When: Nov. 7, 2015

Where: Vaught–Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, MS

Known as the “Swine Intervention,” tight end Hunter Henry’s lateral to running back Alex Collins was one of the most unusual, spectacular plays in the history of SEC football. This 4th-and-25 conversion helped Arkansas stay alive in overtime and eventually go on to win. As an added bonus for Arkansas fans, it kept Ole Miss from advancing to the SEC Championship Game.

Honorable mention: Dan Skipper’s field goal block against TCU in 2016 to send the game into overtime.

Auburn

When: Nov. 30, 2013

Where: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL

The “Kick Six” lights a fire within every Tigers fan who re-watches it. Not only did the play help them beat their hated rival Alabama, cornerback Chris Davis Jr.’s return for a touchdown ensured Auburn’s visit to Atlanta. Tigers radio play-by-play broadcaster Rod Bramblett’s words “Auburn’s gonna win the football game” will never be forgotten by fans.

Honorable mention: Nick Marshall’s Hail Mary pass to Ricardo Louis beating Georgia in 2013.

Florida

When: Sept. 26, 2015

Where: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, FL

Former Gators and current West Virginia quarterback Will Grier faced a 4th-and-14 on the Gators’ side of the field. He found wide receiver Antonio Callaway short of the sticks, and the shifty freshman made a few moves and picked up some key blocks on his way to the end zone. “The Swamp” went berzerk as first-year coach Jim McElwain gained his biggest win to that point.

Honorable mention: The goal-line stand against LSU in 2016 at the end of regulation.

Georgia

When: Oct. 5, 2013

Where: Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, TN

Trailing late in the fourth quarter, Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray threw a dart to Rantavious Wooten with 5 seconds remaining in regulation.  From there, the Bulldogs went on to win in overtime. No Volunteers fan, coach or player wants to remember that day.

Honorable mention: Jarvis Jones stripping Jordan Reed to finish off No. 2 Florida in 2012.

Kentucky

When: Nov. 26, 2016

Where: Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY

Beating your rival and the eventual Heisman winner on the road is about as good as it gets for Kentucky football fans. With 18 seconds remaining, Kentucky kicker Austin MacGinnis booted a 47-yard field goal right between the uprights to put the Wildcats up. This came after the Kentucky defense came up huge, forcing Lamar Jackson to fumble inside the Wildcats’ 10-yard line moments before.

Honorable mention: MacGinnis’s game-winning kick against Mississippi State earlier in 2016.

LSU

When: Oct. 17, 2015

Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA

Honestly, there are a number of Leonard Fournette runs that could be listed here, but none was better than his third-quarter touchdown run against Auburn on this day. Defenders were bouncing off him like ping pong balls as he galloped toward the end zone.

Honorable mention: Freshman quarterback Anthony Jennings steps in for injured Zach Mettenberger and throws for the game-winning touchdown against Arkansas in 2013.

Mississippi State

When: Sept. 20, 2014

Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA

Bulldogs quarterback Dak Prescott turns a short-yardage situation into a 56-yard touchdown run for Mississippi State. You learn a lot of about a football player when he enters “Death Valley” at night as an opponent. Safe to say, Prescott did more than survive the tough test.

Honorable mention: Will Redmond’s interception against Arkansas with 15 seconds to go to keep the Bulldogs undefeated in 2014.

Missouri

When: Nov. 10, 2012

Where: Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, TN

In the teams’ first meeting ever, Missouri went to Knoxville and delivered a devastating loss to the Volunteers. Tigers kicker Andrew Baggett did not squander his opportunity like Tennessee kicker Michael Palardy did. With mounting pressure, Baggett drilled a 35-yard field goal in the fourth overtime period, sending the Tigers home happy.

Honorable mention: James Franklin’s fourth-down touchdown pass with 47 seconds left to send the above mentioned game into overtime.

Ole Miss

When: Sept. 19, 2015

Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL

Wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo snags a pass that ricocheted off a teammate and takes it to the house, putting the Rebels up two touchdowns early in the third quarter of a game they go on to win 43-37. This was their second consecutive victory against Alabama.

Honorable mention: Senquez Golson’s interception in 2014 to seal the win against Alabama.

South Carolina

When: Jan. 1, 2013

Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL

Like Fournette’s run, Jadeveon Clowney’s hit is less about the significance of the game, more about the spectacular nature of the play. His combination of size and speed is rarely seen, even at the NFL level. Michigan running back Vincent Smith knows that all too well.

Honorable mention: Connor Shaw to Bruce Ellington for the tying touchdown in overtime against Missouri in 2013 — the Gamecocks went on to win in 2 OT.

Tennessee

When: Oct. 1, 2016

Where: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA

Bulldogs quarterback Jacob Eason threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Riley Ridley moments before Volunteers quarterback Joshua Dobbs found wide receiver Jauan Jennings in the end zone with no time left on the clock. This play almost sent Tennessee coach Butch Jones into cardiac arrest on the sidelines. Georgia coach Kirby Smart still wakes up in the middle of the night because of nightmares from this game.

Honorable mention: Michael Palardy’s game-winning field goal against South Carolina in 2013.

Texas A&M

When: Nov. 10, 2012

Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL

Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel had a knack for making incredible plays, including this one against the mighty Tide defense in which he fumbled and still threw a touchdown to wide receiver Ryan Swope. Visiting redshirt freshmen rarely shine in Tuscaloosa, but Manziel sure did.

Honorable mention: Manziel again versus Alabama, this time in 2013 with the crazy pass to Edward Pope.

Vanderbilt

When: Nov. 5, 2016

Where: Jordan–Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL

Though Vanderbilt lost, linebacker Zach Cunningham blew fans away when he leaped over the Auburn special teams unit. Sometimes, you can judge just how crazy a play is by the fact that a rule is added to prevent it from happening again.

Honorable mention: Patton Robinette’s fake-jump-pass touchdown run at Tennessee in 2013 to win the game.
