Bob Holt who has been covering SEC sports since 1981, passed away at 65 years old after collapsing while walking to the press box during the Arkansas and Missouri game on Saturday.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but didn’t recover.
Holt started his career at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in 1981, when it was known just as the Arkansas Democrat. It was here where he covered all things Arkansas, and he spent his entire career working for this news outlet. He became a staple in the SEC for beat reporters, and commissioner Greg Sankey put out a statement reflecting on Holt’s impact.
“Bob Holt was a legend in the Southeastern Conference media corps and a friend to everyone,” Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey said early Thursday morning. “He played a starring role in our annual Football Media Days and I will miss hearing him challenge our coaches with both insightful questions and witty retorts. He will be missed in press boxes and press rows across the SEC. We send our condolences to Bob’s family, his colleagues at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and his many friends.”
