Clemson’s 2020 recruiting class is shaping up to be one for the ages.

On Friday, 5-star RB Demarkcus Bowman became commitment No. 13 in a loaded, all-blue-chip class. It pushed Clemson to No. 1 in the recruiting rankings, ahead of LSU. Recruitniks among the fans of the Bayou Bengals know a lot can change in recruiting in a short amount of time and it’s still a long ways out from Letters of Intent being signed. Bowman’s commitment to Clemson undoubtedly stings more in Gainesville than Baton Rouge.

Florida hasn’t signed a 247Sports Composite 5-star recruit since the class of 2015 when Jim McElwain was able to get Sunshine State natives Cece Jefferson and Martez Ivey to follow their hearts to UF. Many in Gator Nation were hoping the drought would end with Bowman. Lakeland, Bowman’s high school, has long been seen as a Florida pipeline producing UF standouts such as Mike Pouncey, Maurkice Pouncey, Chris Rainey and Ahmad Black. In February, a new trio of Dreadnaughts – Keon Zipperer, Lloyd Summerall and Deyavie Hammond – announced they were heading to Gainesville on National Signing Day.

At the time of Bowman’s commitment, 10 recruiting had submitted Crystal Balls predicting where he would sign. Six were for UF.
