The regular season is over, and the only drama remaining in the SEC is whether  Alabama can cover the huge spread over Florida this weekend, and then which poor team has to face the Tide in the upcoming playoff? I do hope it’s Jim Harbaugh & Co….

Since there’s only one SEC game this week, let’s make some predictions on all of the conference championship games taking place this weekend.

Alabama (-21.5) vs Florida

Michael: The Gators have nothing to lose in this game, and much like the Tennessee, LSU and Florida State games this season, I expect Florida to come out and play without fear — throwing deep, going for it on fourth down and not settling for field goals in the red zone. The strategy didn’t work against the Seminoles, but the offense had incredible success early in the game against the Vols and of course the Gators got the biggest win in the Jim McElwain era in Death Valley two weeks ago thanks in large part to the gutsy decision to throw deep despite Austin Appleby standing in his own end zone.

While the Gators are expected to get dominated, Nick Saban is already fielding questions on if this game even matters given the notion that Alabama is a lock for the Playoff regardless of the outcome in Atlanta. Not exactly the best recipe for a fully focused team this week in Tuscaloosa.

The Jalen Hurts for Heisman talk continues to baffle me, as the true freshman has yet to show me he can win a game with his arm against a quality defense or throw accurately while under pressure. Florida’s defense won’t be beat by Hurts’ arm, which also suggests a lower-scoring game for the Tide’s offense in Atlanta.

Alabama 21, Florida 13

Kevin: The Gators indeed have nothing to lose and will pull out all the stops. Unfortunately, due to the talent and execution gap between Florida and Alabama, I don’t think it’s going to make a difference. If you watched last week’s Florida game, the defense held strong for 2-3 quarters while the offense continually failed to get anything going. The Gators’ passing game made an average FSU defense look all-world. What’s going to happen when they face an actual all-world defense?

I’m also concerned that Florida’s extraordinarily talented defense mails it in to some degree. The writing is on the wall. They know they can’t win with the offense they have. It’s human nature to pull back a bit when the NFL Draft is months away.

I think this game is as ugly as most people assume it will be. Florida fails to score much at all. Alabama covers.

Washington (-6) vs Colorado

Michael: This should be an intriguing matchup, as Washington has the 3rd-ranked scoring offense in the nation, while Colorado has the 13th-ranked scoring defense. While I would like to see Colorado win simply for the chaos it would create for the selection committee; Chris Petersen is one of the best big-game coaches in the nation and he’ll show us why once again.

Washington 33, Colorado 21

Kevin: A Friday night conference championship game. How Pac-12! It’s an interesting game actually, and Washington head coach Chris Petersen might be one of the best coaches in all of college football. A Colorado win means that we’ll get some pretty interesting chaos in the CFP rankings, but I think the Huskies hold on and finish the season as Pac-12 champs. What will they win? A semifinal game against Alabama, of course. Enjoy.

Clemson (-8.5) vs Virginia Tech

Michael: Oddly enough, the loss to Pitt seems to have awoken a sleeping giant and shown Clemson it can’t simply show up and win with it’s B- game against solid competition. While I praised Petersen for his coaching expertise, I believe we could soon be giving Justin Fuente similar admiration. Look for the ACC Coach of the Year to keep his team in this game and potentially hold a lead in the second half, but I like Clemson to win, minus the cover, late in the game.

Clemson 30, Virginia Tech 24

Kevin: Clemson reminds me of 2014 Florida State that finished the year with a number of close victories, got into the Playoff, then got blasted by their opponent. I think that trend continues. Clemson will win, then get beat badly in the Playoff. The team has plenty of talent, but seems to be a flawed team nonetheless.

Wisconsin (-1) vs Penn State

Michael: I was impressed with Wisconsin in the season-opener against LSU. It was clear the Badgers did not match up with the Tigers on the field, yet Wisconsin’s coaching was able to mitigate its disadvantages. Since that time, Wisconsin has only lost to Ohio State and Michigan by a combined 14 points. Even though Penn State has won eight consecutive games, the only game it was not favored to win was the Ohio State game and the only road games were Purdue, Rutgers and Indiana. Give me the Badgers.

Wisconsin 27, Penn State 17

Kevin: James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions are one of the hottest teams in the nation, and their offense has been torching teams. I’m going to go with the momentum here and say Penn State wins the Big Ten title. Unfortunately, they’re still not getting into the College Football Playoff.
