ESPN’s Power Football Index disagrees with the media’s predictions for the SEC in 2015.

ESPN explains its FPI as following, which is percentage based:

“The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.”

Last week, the media picked Auburn to win the SEC Championship, Alabama to win the West and Georgia to win the East. Ironically, however, Auburn has the worst chance to win the SEC, according to ESPN’s FPI.

With Georgia predicted to win the SEC by ESPN’s FPI, it’s virtually just another year in Athens, isn’t it? Mark Richt’s teams have never been absent of talent or high expectations. The Bulldogs have just struggled to get it done, for one reason or another.

In fact, UGA hasn’t won the SEC Championship since 2005, but the Bulldogs return a loaded roster, including arguably the SEC’s best player in Nick Chubb. The one question still lingers: who’s going to play quarterback? Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta and UVA transfer Greyson Lambert will have a nice little position battle when fall camp opens.
