Four SEC players made the list of 18 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, presented annually to the best player in college football, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.

Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen and quarterback Jalen Hurts, LSU running back Leonard Fournette and Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight are all up for the prestigious accolade. The SEC and the ACC tied for the most players honored as Maxwell semifinalists, and Clemson is the only other school besides Alabama to place two players on the list.

Hurts was the only freshman nominated, and Allen was also named one of 18 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is a yearly accolade given to the nation’s best defensive player. Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers was the only other player chosen as a semifinalist for both awards.
