JJ Harrell de-committed from Tennessee football at the beginning of June. 15 days later, he announced he would be staying home by committing to Mississippi State on Tuesday.

That’s huge for the Bulldogs for a few reasons. For one, Harrell is now Mississippi State’s highest rated recruit in the Class of 2024 rankings. For another, the Bulldogs beat out Ole Miss to keep Harrell in-state. MSU also beat out the likes of LSU and Alabama for the top-end 4-star recruit.

Harrell hails from North Panola HS in Sardis, MS. He originally committed to Tennessee in February of 2023 following an official visit.

Mississippi State now holds verbal commitment from 2 WRs in the 2024 cycle, joining 3-star WR Matt Mayfield.

Harrell is considered to be the No. 155 overall prospect in the country, as well as the No. 22 wide receiver and No. 4 player out of the state of Mississippi.
