Kirk Herbstreit was on hand to see Ohio State’s 48-7 beatdown over Nebraska Saturday night, and he came away so impressed with the Buckeyes that he has ranked OSU No. 1 after Week 5.

Former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields led the Buckeyes completing 15-of-21 passes for 212 yards and three passing touchdowns. He also added another rushing touchdown.

Last week, Herbstreit ranked the top four teams as No. 1 Clemson, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 LSU and No. 4. Ohio State. This week, however, OSU jumped from No. 4 to No. 1. Herbstreit’s new top four consists of No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2. Alabama, No. 3. Clemson and No. 4. LSU. Georgia and Oklahoma rounded out the top six.

Clemson struggled with North Carolina Saturday 21-20, and if not for a failed two-point conversion by UNC, Clemson may have lost and essentially eliminated from Playoff contention. Alabama throttled Ole Miss 59-31, but there are real concerns about the Tide’s defense exiting Week 5. LSU and Georgia were both off Saturday, and Oklahoma torched Texas Tech 55-16.

Herbstreit shared his top four on social media.

Yes, Ohio State looks great, but the Buckeyes also haven’t beaten a ranked opponent yet — FAU, Cincinnati, Indiana, Miami (OH) and Nebraska.

The best resume in college football belongs to Auburn, as the Tigers have beaten two ranked teams in Oregon and Texas A&M.
