The Lott Trophy released its preseason watch list Friday, and five different SEC players made it.

The award, which annually recognizes college football’s best defensive performer on and off the field.

The 42 student-athlete nominees include:

Georgia LB Leonard Floyd
Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves III
Auburn DB Jonathan Jones
Ole Miss DT Robert Nkemdiche
Alabama LB Reggie Ragland

Unlike the Heisman Trophy, the Lott winner usually has gone to NFL success. Recent winners include DeMeco Ryans, Glenn Dorsey, J.J. Watt and Luke Kuechly.

If you’re looking for players who may have been snubbed on the initial list, we thought of a few: LSU S Jalen Mills, Tennessee DE Derek Barnett, Florida LB Antonio Morrison, Georgia LB Lorenzo Carter and Missouri DT Antonio Morrison.
