Sebrina Brunson became the SEC’s first female to officiate a game last weekend when she was part of the crew working Texas A&M’s home opener at new Kyle Field against Ball State.

1442119091118Brunson, who was an alternate official, took over at halftime in College Station, according to SEC director of communications Chuck Dunlap. She works as an alternate official for the Sun Belt Conference. Due to an officiating shortage in Week 2 thanks to so many home games, the SEC — which oversees Sun Belt crews — called for help.

It appears Brunson hasn’t spoken to a media outlet on the record since 2009 when she was interviewed for a story in the News-Argus as a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference official. She reportedly resides in Georgia, but hails from Florida as a graduate of Florida Atlantic University.

“My officiating career started in youth football and expanded into high school, semi-pro and then the collegiate level,” Brunson was quoted in 2009.
