Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel has added names to the list of potential candidates for the South Carolina coaching job.

Thamel said that Marshall’s Doc Holliday, Western Kentucky’s Jeff Brohm and Cal’s Sonny Dykes could be candidates for the job. He also named several frequently-mentioned candidates, such as Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Memphis head coach Justin Fuente, Houston head coach Tom Herman and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez.

Holliday is 47–26 in five-plus seasons with the Thundering Herd. Marshall has gone 30-6 the past 2 1/2 seasons. Most of his coaching career was spent at West Virginia, but he also coached receivers at N.C. State for five years and was the associate head coach at Florida for three years under Urban Meyer.

Brohm is in his second season as Western Kentucky’s head coach, where he has a 14-7 record. He has also been an assistant at Louisville, his alma mater, Illinois, UAB and Western Kentucky. Under Brohm, the Hilltoppers run an explosive, pass-heavy offense.

Dykes also runs a high-scoring, pass-heavy offense. He was an assistant at Texas Tech and Arizona, and has been a head coach at Louisiana Tech and Cal for the past six seasons. His last two Louisiana Tech teams went 8-5 and 9-3. This season, his Cal team is 5-2, two years after the Golden Bears went 1-11.
