The hard part of the week is over for players at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The South and North teams had their final practices on Thursday.

The weather improved over the cool, rainy conditions from Wednesday. The players will be available to greet fans at a “Meet the Players” gathering on Friday. The game is set for 2:30 ET Saturday on NFL Network. SEC players are on the South team.

NEWS AND NOTES

Auburn CB Jonathan Jones is standing tall at the Senior Bowl workouts despite his 5-foot-9 frame, according to cbssports.com. Jones impressed Dane Brugler with his tight coverage and ability to anticipate throws.

Brugler also reported that Alabama CB Cyrus Jones was the victim of the best catch of the day by Baylor’s Jay Lee, who fended off tight coverage from Jones to make a one-handed snag.

Louisville DT Sheldon Rankins, who sprained his knee during Wednesday’s South practice, was replaced by South Carolina State’s Javon Hargrave.

Alabama LB Reggie Ragland said he learned the importance of attention to detail while playing for Nick Saban the last four seasons.

“Coach Saban taught me a lot,” Ragland told reporters this week. “He taught me as a player to really pay attention to the detail of things. That’s the type of coach he is. When we game plan, he’s going to go over every necessary thing we need to do as a team and I’m going to learn a new scheme, so I’m going to go into it with the right mindset and I’m going to try to pay attention to the details of that scheme.”

If he were still playing for Saban, Ragland might have received some criticism from the coach for putting on postseason weight. An inside linebacker for the Crimson Tide, Ragland is working out at outside linebacker to try to show NFL scouts he can play on third down.

Alabama QB Jake Coker set up Oklahoma WR Sterling Shepard to take a beating on this throw in Thursday’s South practice.

South Carolina TE Jerell Adams has gotten attention with his blocking. He can catch the ball, too.
