North Carolina fell to Clemson at home Tuesday night, marking just its second-ever loss to the Tigers in Chapel Hill.

Clemson jumped out to a 15-2 lead early on in the game and the Tar Heels were never able to fully recover. Despite mounting a second-half comeback, UNC fell 80-76 as it took its second ACC loss of the season.

After the game, North Carolina leaders Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram acknowledged that the Tar Heels were not prepared for this game. They said players were late getting to shoot-around and that energy in pre-game warmups was low.

“Just too casual. In practice, we didn’t come out how we wanted to,” Bacot said. “In our practices, we go full-on, all-out, and they just haven’t been that good these last 2 days. Shoot-around today, we had a bad shoot-around. Even in warm-ups today, we didn’t get out there on time. Coming up to this game … It just wasn’t what it needed to be and we got what we deserved.”

Ingram said players woke up late from their pre-game naps and said “that just can’t happen” in the future.

“Most people will take naps before the game,” Ingram said. “I feel like we just weren’t ready to go. Some people slept in. We were getting tape and people were just late. That just can’t happen, I feel like that showed in the game. That was one of the first games we were late. We came out slow, energy in warmups was slow, energy at halftime, everything just wasn’t the same.”

North Carolina is still in good shape for the NCAA Tournament and is one of a handful of teams still in the mix for a No. 1 seed. The Tar Heels will need to rebound quickly from this loss, however, as they’re set to face Miami on the road on Saturday.
