When offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy announced his decision to leave Alabama following spring practice, he may have envisioned himself playing for another football program within the league. Despite earning his undergraduate degree, making himself eligible immediately at his next destination, Kennedy may not have the opportunity to continue his playing career in the SEC.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Kennedy is being blocked by Alabama from considering Auburn or Tennessee as potential transfer destinations. The way current NCAA rules are set up, transfers need to get permission from their former schools before they can contact potential next destinations.

The NCAA’s Division I Transfer Working Group appears set on changing that aspect of the transfer rule in the near future, as soon as this summer, but no revision has been issued to the current rule at this time. The revision to the rule, allowing players to go to whatever school they desire without having to gain permission, is expected to be voted on in June.

Kennedy arrived in Tuscaloosa as a four-star prospect and the No. 19 offensive guard prospect in the nation for the 2015 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next school.
