A man who played part of last season at Carson-Newman was killed Saturday in a shooting near Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Michael Roper graduated from high school in 2017, and played in four games for Carson-Newman last season, but was not listed on this season’s roster, the Daily News Journal reported. Roper graduated from Oakland High School in 2017, and a current Oakland student and football player was reportedly injured in the incident.

Jalen Locklayer, the current Oakland student, was transported by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center from the 700 block of North Maney Avenue just after 11 p.m. Saturday.
