One of the more salacious details to come from the publicly released report on the Ohio State football program investigation was that Zach Smith and another Buckeyes assistant (at the time) took one or more high school football coaches to a strip club during a recruiting trip to Florida in May 2014.

“In May 2014, in connection with an out-of-town recruiting trip to Florida, Zach Smith ran up a significant bill at a local strip club along with another OSU football coach and one or more high school coaches. We have provided the information obtained by the Independent Investigation of this incident to the Office of University Compliance and Integrity and the Athletic Compliance Office to investigate whether this conduct violated the NCAA legislation.”

Lettermen Row is reporting that the unnamed Ohio State assistant was Tom Herman, former Buckeyes offensive coordinator and current Texas head coach. Lettermen Row cites multiple sources with direct knowledge of the recruiting trip. Social media posts establish that Smith and Herman were in Ft. Lauderdale on May 7, 2014. They both posted about former Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier being on the front page of the local sports page.

Shazier is world wide. Found this little article all the way in Ft. Lauderdale

It’s not the first time Herman has been linked to the Urban Meyer scandal at Ohio State. Reporter Jeff Snook, an OSU journalism graduate and author of multiple Buckeyes books, posted on Facebook earlier this month that he had identified Herman as Brett McMurphy’s tipster. Herman and McMurphy both disputed Snook’s report.

It is important to note that the @CoachZachSmith Instagram account is not verified, but was cited in Lettermen Row’s report. Many Smith family photos have also been posted on the account. Herman’s Instagram account is verified.
