South Carolina football isn’t out of the bowl contention just yet.

The Gamecocks earned an impressive win over Kentucky Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium and now sit at 5-6 on the season with 1 game to play: vs. Clemson.

The good news is that this is not the Clemson of the past and the Gamecocks get the Tigers at home, where they’ve played well this season. If they were to win, they’d likely draw the Birmingham or Gasparilla Bowl.

There wasn’t much shakeup in the SEC this weekend compared to last week’s projections. Auburn has already cracked 6 wins, so they’re forgiven for their dreadful loss to New Mexico State as far as projections are concerned.

The top of the conference dominated once again. Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss all picked up convincing wins. Mizzou’s wasn’t dominant, but it was still impressive in a back-and-forth contest against a Florida team with its back against the wall.

Florida’s bowl outlook is grim. The Gators must beat No. 4 Florida State in The Swamp to crack the 6 necessary wins. This is college football we’re talking about; crazier things have happened, and the Noles will be starting a backup QB, but don’t get your hopes up, Gators fans.

Alabama is still in the mix for a Playoff spot, but it didn’t quite get the chaos it needed this weekend; Washington, Oregon, Texas and Florida State all earned fairly convincing wins in Week 12.

The Tide could get into the Playoff with an SEC title belt. Even then, they’d feel better about their chances if Texas were to lose before the season expires.

A non-SEC note: Ohio State is now in projections for the CFP after another dominant win over Minnesota paired with Michigan’s struggle win over a really average Maryland squad. There’s just too much drama surrounding Ann Arbor for Michigan to get the nod right now assuming only 1 B1G team makes the Playoff field.

Rivalry week is upon us. Until Saturday, college football.
