It’s the cyber-football sensation that’s sweeping the nation!

Okay, it swept through the nation a long time ago, but fantasy football remains an integral part of the football fan experience in 2014. So why limit the fun to just professional football?

Saturday Down South is bringing fantasy football to the SEC, compiling the best fantasy team from throughout the conference each week. Using the standard scoring system, we’ll evaluate the weekend’s best statistical performances from the weekend and translate them into point values.

Teams will be comprised of the following players: one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, one team’s defense and one kicker. Each player’s stat line will be converted into a point total, resulting in a cumulative score for the team for that week.

Now, without further ado, it’s time to announce the Week 2 All-SEC fantasy lineup of the week:

QB: Maty Mauk (Missouri) — 325 pass yards, 5 pass TDs, 2 Ints, 36 rush yards, 1 rush TD — 38 points. Mauk tore apart the Toledo defense through the air and with his legs in a 49-24 win over the Rockets. He threw a pair of interceptions to limit his point total, but his six total touchdowns and 325 yards through the air were more than enough to earn him a spot on this week’s team.

RB: Alex Collins (Arkansas) — 131 rush yards, 3 rush TDs — 31 points. Collins was just one cog in a Razorbacks’ offense that posted 73 points on Nicholls State last weekend. His three touchdowns on the ground helped separate him from the rest of the SEC’s talented tailbacks, and Todd Gurley’s bye week certainly helped his cause as well.

RB: Cameron Artis-Payne (Auburn) — 112 rush yards, 3 rush TDs — 29 points. Only 19 yards on the ground separated Artis-Payne and Collins this weekend. The Auburn tailback ran for three touchdowns in a win over San Jose State, extending the Tigers’ streak of games with a 100-yard rusher in the process.

WR: Travin Duval (LSU) — 140 receiving yards, 3 rec. TDs — 32 points. Duval had another monster day in the LSU offense, scoring three times in a 56-0 rout of Sam Houston State while topping the 140 yard-mark for the second straight week.

WR: Amari Cooper (Alabama) — 189 rec. yards, 1 rec. TD — 24 points. Cooper only scored once in a blowout win over Florida Atlantic, but his 189 yards through the air helped pad his stats and inflate his fantasy value for the week.

TE: Evan Engram (Ole Miss) — 112 rec. yards — 11 points. Engram led all SEC tight ends by going over the 100-yard mark as a receiver in a win over Vanderbilt. He did not score a touchdown, but neither did any other tight end with at least 30 yards on Saturday, giving Engram the obvious edge at this position.

Def/ST: Alabama — 145 yards allowed, 0 points allowed, 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery — 13 points. The Crimson Tide shut out Florida Atlantic while holding its offense to fewer than 150 yards of total offense. Alabama registered three sacks and recovered a fumble to boost its point value, earning the nod over Ole Miss, which also held its opponent to zero points and fewer than 200 yards.

K: Frankie Velez (Florida) — 3-of-3 field goals, 8-of-8 extra points — 17 points. Velez knocked in all three of his field goal attempts in a season-opening win over Eastern Michigan, although all three were from inside 40 yards. He also connected on all eight of his PATs, padding his stats and his fantasy value for the week.

Week 2 total points: 185 points.

We’ll save this score and compare it to scores from each future week’s All-SEC fantasy squad, so stay tuned each Monday for another edition of SEC fantasy football on Saturday Down South.
