Will Muschamp didn’t do his job security any favors in a 42-13 loss to Missouri last week. In fact, he made things much, much worse. At least Derek Mason had the decency to sit the week out on a bye.

Other coaches, like Butch Jones and Bret Bielema, are still seeking their first SEC wins of the season, and their fan bases are beginning to grow impatient.

We’re officially nine weeks into the season, and it’s definitely not too early to begin discussing hot seats and potential coaching vacancies after the season. Having said that, here are this week’s SDS Hot Seat Rankings:

THE HOTTEST SEATS

1. Will Muschamp: Muschamp lost by 29 points to a team that mustered just 119 yards of total offense. Do you understand how difficult that is to do? I’ll tell you how difficult — since 2000, no other FBS head coach has ever lost a game in which it held its opponent below 120 yards of offense. Muschamp has now lost twice under those circumstances in less than four full seasons at Florida. He’s coming up with ways to lose that literally no other coach has pulled off. His team appears hopeless, and there’s a dark cloud reigning over Gainesville this week following last week’s embarrassment. An embarrassment that took place on the Gators’ homecoming night, no less. Muschamp’s dismissal come season’s end seems inevitable, and we weren’t even sure if he’d make it through the current bye week with a job. It appears he’ll get to finish out the regular season, or at least get to coach against Georgia in Week 10, but he’s effectively a lame duck coach at this point.

2. Derek Mason: Mason and his Commodores enjoyed their first bye of the season last week, so not much has changed regarding Mason’s job security. There are still fans who believe Mason needs more time to build a winner at Vanderbilt, and fans who believe the Commodores have regressed so much that Mason has already coached himself out of a job. His seat isn’t nearly as hot as Muschamp’s, but if Vanderbilt closes the season the way it played in the first seven weeks of 2014, Mason could be gone after just one season.

THE WARM SEATS

3. Bret Bielema: Bielema and the Razorbacks were smacked by Georgia in Little Rock, falling 45-32 in a game they trailed 38-6 at halftime. Bielema is now 0-12 in SEC games since arriving at Arkansas, and three of his final four SEC contests this season will be against ranked teams. If Bielema falls to 0-16 in conference play after his first two full seasons, it may be enough to justify firing him. Bielema was one of the best coaches in the Big 10 during his year’s at Wisconsin, but as many have told him the SEC is not the Big 10. Bielema is not necessarily on a hot seat, but if he fails to win an SEC game between now and the end of the year that could change.

4. Kevin Sumlin: Sumlin’s Aggies are coming off three straight humiliating defeats against SEC West foes, and Sumlin appears to be one of the most overrated coaches in the country after being exposed by Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama. It is clear Texas A&M is not prepared to compete with the elite teams of the SEC, and in year three that has some Aggies fans frustrated. Was Sumlin only as good as Johnny Manziel made him look? As of now, the answer appears to be yes, which could be enough to warrant firing him.

5. Butch Jones: Jones is in a similar situation to Bielema in that his team appears to be improved from last season, but the results aren’t any different. Tennessee is also winless in the SEC, although worst-case scenario it’ll beat Vanderbilt the last week of the season. However, that won’t be enough to please Vols fans. It’s unlikely Jones will be fired this season, but if Tennessee doesn’t begin to win games it could put him on the hot seat next season. Tennessee’s upcoming schedule is much easier than its schedule during the first half of the season, so Jones has plenty of opportunity to turn things around. But if he doesn’t, fans won’t wait for wins much longer.
