South Carolina won the first SEC league game of the season, Georgia invaded Notre Dame and came away with a one point victory and only Arkansas and Auburn fell outside the SEC in Week 2.

Following the Week 2 action, here are the players individually honored by the SEC:

Offensive Player of the Week: Shea Patterson, QB, Ole Miss

  • Threw for a school-record 489 yards and a career-best five touchdowns in the win over UT Martin.
  • Broke Chad Kelly’s previous Ole Miss record of 465 yards set last season against Auburn and finished one TD shy of tying Eli Manning’s school record six touchdown passes set against Arkansas in 2001.
  • Completed 32 of 43 attempts (74.4 pct.) to nine different receivers.
  • The 489 yards passing is the 13th-most in SEC history just behind Tim Couch and Peyton Manning, who each threw for 492 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week: Lorenzo Carter, LB, Georgia

  • Senior Lorenzo Carter, a native of Norcross, Ga., jumpstarted the Bulldog defense in their come-from-behind 20-19 victory at #24 Notre Dame
  • Carter came off the bench to tie for the team’s second most tackles with seven, including a sack, forced fumble and recovered fumble with under two minutes left in the third quarter and Georgia up 17-16
  • Carter, who also had a second forced fumble in the game, then pounced on another loose ball with under two minutes left in the game and the Bulldogs leading 20-19 to help clinch the victory
  • Carter was an anchor to a Georgia defensive unit that limited the Irish to 55 yards on the ground, which was Notre Dame’s lowest output since 2011

Special Teams Player of the Week: Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina

  • South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel was at it again on Saturday in the Gamecocks’ 31-13 win at Missouri. With the Gamecocks trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, the junior wide receiver returned a kick 97 yards for a touchdown, the second-straight week he’s taken a kick 97 yards to paydirt.
  • Thirty seconds later, he was in the endzone again on a 25-yard run, giving Carolina a lead that they would not relinquish.
  • Samuel was also the Gamecocks’ top receiver with five catches for 45 yards, as he totaled 167 all-purpose yards.
  • The two kick returns for touchdowns ties the school’s single-season record and Samuel now owns the school record for career kick returns for touchdowns with 3, all coming in the last 5 games.

Freshman of the Week: Ty Chandler, RB, Tennessee

  • 91-yard kick return touchdown on game’s opening kick-off (14 seconds into game)
  • Also had four carries for 14 yards
  • First true freshmen with kickoff return touchdown for the Vols since 1999
  • First Vol to return opening kickoff for a score since Evan Berry in 2015

Offensive Lineman of the Week: Matt Wamack, Alabama

  • Matt Womack was named an Offensive Player of the Week by the Alabama coaching staff for his play in the 41-10 win in the Crimson Tide’s home opener.
  • He graded out at 90 percent and accounted for three knockdown blocks.
  • Did not commit a penalty or allow a sack or quarterback hurry
  • Helped open holes 305 rushing yards and three touchdowns as quarterback Jalen Hurts recorded his fourth career 100-yard rushing game with a career-high 154 yards while freshman Najee Harris added 70 yards on 13 attempts.

Defensive Lineman of the Week: Jeffery Simmions, Mississippi State

  • Simmons completely dominated against Louisiana Tech, becoming the first MSU defensive player to register two touchdowns since Johnthan Banks had two against Florida on Oct. 24, 2009.
  • Simmons blocked a PAT attempt and then four minutes later skied to block a punt and recover it In the endzone to put MSU in front for good. It was the first blocked punt returned or recovered for a touchdown by the Bulldogs since Sept. 12, 2009 at Auburn.
  • In the third quarter, Simmons recovered a fumble and returned it 90 yards for his second touchdown of the game. It was the longest fumble recovery touchdown for MSU since Josh Morgan had a 97-yard one against BYU on Sept. 14, 2000.
  • He finished with five tackles on the night, a nation-leading two blocks and registered more touchdowns than three SEC teams on Saturday.
