First, the Big 12. Now, the SEC?

SEC Network analyst Marcus Spears thinks the league might be this year’s Power 5 conference to miss the College Football Playoff, making that point clear on The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday.

“I want to send a note out to all SEC fans,” the former LSU defensive end said. “There’s a real possibility that an SEC team doesn’t make the College Football Playoff. That’s a real thing, not saying it’s going to happen, but that’s a real thing … There’s just a lot of scenarios right now that don’t favor the SEC getting into the College Football Playoff unless the committee looks at it and says, ‘regardless of a two-loss team (they still deserve to be in).’ ”

Spears isn’t the only one at the network weary of the SEC being represented.

On Saturday, former Florida Heisman winner Tim Tebow chose the SEC as one of two Power 5 conferences with the strongest likelihood of being left out.

“I think it’s the ACC or the SEC … They beat each other up,” Tebow said. “It is such a grind in the SEC. It is so hard. And yeah, LSU could lose a game. And then if they match up in the SEC Championship with one loss, they lose again, they’re not getting in.”

Spears agreed with Tebow’s sentiment but was actually more sold on the ACC being left out if Florida State loses to Florida on Nov. 28.
