The NFL Playoffs kicked off  with Wild Card Weekend. As always, the SEC is well-represented in the playoffs, but how did the former SEC stars perform in the first-round action?

Here’s the best SEC performances in the NFL from the past weekend.

Offense

  • QB Cam Newton — It was a big weekend for Cam Newton, who claimed his first career playoff victory. He went 18-for-32 with 198 passing yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Panthers over the Cardinals. Newton also added 35 rushing yards on seven carries
  • QB Matthew Stafford — Detroit fell in Dallas, 24-20, as Matthew Stafford had trouble holding onto the football. The former Georgia QB turned it over three times, but he also had a productive day through the air. He threw for 323 yards and one touchdown on 28-42 passing.
  • RB Jeremy Hill — One of the most impressive rookies of the season was running back Jeremy Hill. He was able to run for 47 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries for the Bengals. However, it wasn’t enough as Cincinnati fell to Indianapolis on the road.
  • WR Donte Moncreif — It was a slow weekend for former SEC wideouts in the NFL, but Donte Moncrief added some excitement with 54 receiving yards and a touchdown on three receptions in the Colts’ Wild Card Weekend win.
  • TE Jason Witten — Always a reliable target for QB Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten caught five passes for 63 yards in Dallas’ 24-20 win over the Detroit Lions.

Defense

  • LB CJ Mosley — The standout rookie for the Baltimore Ravens kept his strong season going as he recorded nine tackles in the Ravens’ road win over the Steelers.
  • DE Jeremy Mincey — Defense has been the calling card for the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 and former Florida Gator Jeremy Mincey came up with some big plays for the Cowboys in their opening-round victory. He recorded three tackles, along with one sack.
