Several of the nation’s top 2016 prep quarterback prospects will converge on Los Angeles this weekend for the Elite 11 Semifinals, a three-day event featuring on-field drills, instruction from coaches and a 7-on-7 evaluation used to determine top performers who will go on to participate in the Elite 11 Finals as part of The Opening Finals at Nike World Headquarters in July.

The Elite 11 Semifinals, which begin Friday and will be streamed at Elite11.com, features numerous highly-touted SEC commits along with other coveted targets who out-performed their peers at Elite 11 regional competitions during the spring.

Five-star participants include Georgia commit Jacob Eason, the nation’s No. 1 pro-style passer according to 247Sports’ player rankings and Malik Henry, Jimbo Fisher’s gem in Florida State’s incoming class.

Eason has already commanded the respect of Bulldogs quarterbacks Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta, who watched him perform at ‘Dawg Night’ earlier this year. He owns a skill set similar to Matt Stafford — Georgia’s previous highest-ranked quarterback signee — with great size and a big-time arm.

His accuracy is another primary strength. Eason’s thrown only three interceptions during his prep career.

Announced SEC commits, targets participating in Elite 11 Semifinals

  • Jacob Eason, five-star, 6-5, 205 (Lake Stevens, Wash.; Georgia commit)
  • Feleipe Franks, four-star, 6-5, 220 (Crawfordville, Fla.; LSU commit)
  • Jawon Pass, four-star, 6-5, 220 (Carver, Ga.; Alabama, Auburn target)
  • Jarrett Guarantano, 6-4, 220 (Oradell, N.J.; Tennessee commit)
  • Dillon Sterling-Cole, 6-3, 185 (Houston, Texas; Texas A&M, Florida target)

Another premiere SEC commit is Feleipe Franks, a lanky passer out of Florida rated the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat in 2016. The LSU commit, who slipped out of the Seminoles and Gators’ grasp thanks to Tigers OC Cam Cameron, will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January alongside Eason.

Franks was Trent Dilfer’s first Elite 11 invite after a stellar performance in March at the Orlando regional.

Four-star dual-threat Jawon Pass out of Carver, Ga. is the highest-rated uncommitted Elite 11 quarterback, a 6-foot-5, 220-pounder with an incredible arm. According to most recruiting analysts, it’s a tight race between Alabama, Auburn and Louisville for his services.

The nation’s No. 2 dual-threat behind Franks took an unofficial visit to Auburn last weekend.

247Sports reported that Pass spent time with Jeremy Johnson and Duke Williams during his visit and talked spread offense with Gus Malzahn and OC Rhett Lashlee.

“They keep telling me, whenever I’m ready, I’m the guy they want,” Pass said to 247Sports. “It’s just all on me. I’m high — real high on Auburn. I just want to see and get a last feel for my top five. Then make a decision.”

Four-star Jarrett Guarantano committed to Tennessee in April over finalists Ohio State and Rutgers. Many thought Guarantano would choose Rutgers considering both of the New Jersey native’s parents are alums and his father, James, is a member of the football program’s hall of fame.

Guarantano’s verbal agreement was great news for the Vols who lost out on previously-committed Austin Kendall, an Oklahoma flip, in March.

Current SEC quarterbacks who have participated in previous Elite 11 competitions include Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs (2012), Mississippi’s Chad Kelly (2011), Kentucky’s Drew Barker (2013), Georgia’s Jacob Park (2013), Florida’s Will Grier (2013), Auburn’s Sean White (2013), Alabama’s Blake Barnett (2014), Mizzou’s Drew Lock (2014) and Texas A&M’s Kyle Allen (2013) and Kyler Murray (2014).

Future first-round picks Tim Tebow, Teddy Bridgewater, Andrew Luck, Matt Stafford, JaMarcus Russell, Vince Young and Matt Leinart are among the most notable quarterbacks to appear in the all-star event’s 16-year history.

Ten of the last 11 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks have attended the Elite 11 Finals or an Elite 11 regional.
