SEC teams have not had the most successful postseason in 2024. The conference has had 5 teams play against Big Ten teams in either bowl games or the College Football Playoff, and the B1G teams are 4-1 in those matchups.

The trend started when Ohio State dominated Tennessee in the first round of the Playoff. Then, USC defeated Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl. On Tuesday, Michigan took down Alabama and Illinois defeated South Carolina. The SEC’s lone win against the conference came in the Music City Bowl when Mizzou knocked off Iowa.

As a result, fans on social media are having quite a time poking fun at SEC football.

Notably, SEC teams are 5-1 in postseason games against non-B1G teams. Florida, Texas, LSU, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas each won their bowl games, while Oklahoma lost to Navy. The final bowl game for an SEC team (outside of the CFP) is the Gator Bowl between Ole Miss and Duke.

Meanwhile, Texas and Georgia are still alive in the CFP. The Bulldogs are set to take on Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl while the Longhorns will play Arizona State in the Peach Bowl.

As many fans and media members have pointed out, 2 SEC teams that some thought should be in the Playoff lost their bowl games. Alabama received the most support to be in the Playoff, but the Crimson Tide managed just 13 points in a ReliaQuest Bowl loss to Michigan. South Carolina also received some love, but the Gamecocks lost 21-17 to Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
