Much like many mainstream polls, sportsbook BetOnline.ag has listed the top eight teams with the best odds to make the College Football Playoff, and they’re in a predictable grouping.

It appears the decision will come down to, barring upsets, Georgia or Alabama and a Pac-12 team for the No. 4 slot.

It’s still unknown how the committee will ultimately treat Alabama without injured QB Tua Tagovailoa. Backup Mac Jones will get a test next week at Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

“We do not look forward,” committee chairman Rob Mullens said recently. “Our charge is to rank the teams based on their body of work through Week 12, and that’s what we did. Obviously, we’ll watch the games moving forward and evaluate them after that.”

There have been many comparisons with Alabama and Ohio State in 2014 when Cardale Jones replaced an injured J.T. Barrett in the Big Ten championship game and led Ohio State to a 59-0 rout of Wisconsin. That result propelled the Buckeyes past TCU and Baylor and into the fourth seed.

The best chance for two SEC teams to make it — though there is a chance for Alabama — is if Georgia were to win the SEC, and beat an unbeaten LSU. The Tigers would still have a solid resume with victories against Alabama, Florida, Auburn and Texas to stay in the top four.
