Starting this postseason, there will be a college football bowl game named after a talk show host.

Jimmy Kimmel announced Wednesday night that the Dec. 18 bowl game at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will be known as the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.

Kimmel joked during “Jimmy Kimmel Live” about the company he joins having a bowl named after him.

“There are so many memorable colorful names – the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl, the Tropical Smoothie Café Frisco Bowl, the LendingTree Bowl, the Cheese-It Bowl,” Kimmel said. “The list goes on and on. And ever since I was 52, which was last year, I have dreamed of having a college football bowl game named after me. And tonight I am thrilled to announce that dream is finally coming true.”

The game, which will feature the No. 1 team from the Mountain West Conference vs. the No. 5 team from the Pac-12, is set to be broadcast on ABC.

According to USA TODAY, it is accurate for Kimmel to say this is the first bowl game named after a person. There was a John Hancock Bowl named after an insurance company. Kimmel joked about “Papa John” not counting.

The same USA TODAY article notes that a company paid $300,000 in 2018 for naming rights to the Bahamas Bowl. It’s unclear how much Kimmel paid to have his name on the LA bowl game.
