The Texas A&M Aggies and Arkansas Razorbacks play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas at 12:00 pm eastern for a SEC West match-up between two teams who haven’t quite lived up to expectations for this season.

The Aggies, despite having one of the toughest schedules in college football, were expected to be fairly competitive in the race for the SEC championship. Now, sitting at 2-2, they seek to prove that they are still one of the better teams in college football. For A&M, a loss to Clemson was expected, and losing to Auburn is not the end of the world. The problem is that Aggie QB Kellen Mond has not played very well to start out this season. Many expected Mond to take a huge jump this season, but he has looked uncomfortable when faced with adversity throughout the first four games.

This inability to cope with pressure is not only an issue with Mond, A&M as a whole have underperformed in their two tough games so far this season. While Arkansas isn’t exactly an upper echelon opponent, the Aggies will want to take this chance to bounce back from a tough loss against Auburn.

Right now, Arkansas and A&M are both sitting at 2-2, so the Razorbacks will likely feel disrespected by the high spread which favors A&M. Neither team has performed particularly well so far this season, and Arkansas will feel that this is as good a time as any to upset a struggling opponent. It also presents a chance for former A&M QB Nick Starkel to triumph over the team which chose Mond over him. Make no mistake, he, and the rest of the Arkansas team, will be very motivated to win this game.

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Arkansas Razorbacks football players to watch

Roney Elam, defense back for Texas A&M, has been a standout performer for the Aggies this season. Although he did not play in the Auburn game, in his three other games played he has intercepted a pass two times and has one sack. Elam has been a solid player in a fairly good A&M defense, and he will look to maintain his run of good form. A prominent player on the defense, the Aggies largely rely on him to be a leader and play maker.

Kellen Mond is another player to watch. Mond received a lot of hype over the off season, but has not really lived up to expectations so far. He was mediocre in the much anticipated game against #1 Clemson, missing several key passes which could have made the game close. He seemed to bounce back to some extent against Auburn, throwing for over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions. This improved performance may be the start of an upward trend for the second year starter, but his seeming inconsistency may also be responsible. If Mond plays well against Arkansas, the Aggies offense should have no trouble scoring against a mediocre Razorbacks defense.
