You don’t think kickers and punters are important? Go tell that to Alabama All-American JK Scott, who was arguably the Tide’s top performer down the stretch, aside from Amari Cooper.

Special teams is an often overlooked aspect of the game, but we pay homage to the best incoming freshmen kickers and punters for 2015:

Editor’s note: Saturday Down South’s references to ratings follow the 247Sports.com composite rankings.

Kickers

1. Daniel LaCamera, Texas A&M (Tarpon Springs, FL)
The Skinny: Texas A&M already has one of the best punters in the country in Drew Kaser, and the Aggies signed one of the top kickers in Daniel LaCamera. The Aggies’ special teams play should be very good.

2. Rodrigo Blankenship, Georgia (Marietta, GA)
The Skinny: Marshall Morgan is already dominating for the Bulldogs, and Rodrigo Blankenship could be the next in line. Blankenship has a big-time leg and will be a future asset.

Punters

1. Joseph Charlton, South Carolina (Columbia, SC)
The Skinny: The Columbia native stayed home and hopes to be an asset for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Veteran punters Patrick Fish and Tyler Hull were both seniors in 2014, and Charlton could work his way into the rotation this coming season.

2. Ian Shannon, Auburn (Marietta, GA)
The Skinny: Ian Shannon ranked as the country’s No. 4 overall punter, according to 247Sports. Leading punter Daniel Carlson returns in 2015.

3. Blake Johnson, Arkansas (Los Alamitos, CA)
The Skinny: The Hogs have just one other punter — junior Toby Baker — on the roster. Blake Johnson could slide into a major role in 2015. Sam Irwin-Hill did a great job last season as a senior.
