The 2019 MLB Draft is only a few short days away, as it starts on June 3 in Secaucus, New Jersey.
A handful of SEC players and one SEC football commit are projected to go in Round 1 of the latest version of MLB.com analyst Jonathan Mayo’s mock draft.
As you can see below, SEC Player of the Year JJ Bleday leads the way at No. 6 overall:
- No. 6 — JJ Bleday, OF, Vanderbilt — San Diego Padres
- No. 12 — Zack Thompson, LHP, Kentucky — New York Mets
- No. 30 — Kameron Misner, OF, Missouri — New York Yankees
- No. 34 — Maurice Hampton, OF, LSU football commit — Arizona Diamondbacks
Hampton is a 4-star defensive back committed to play both baseball and football at LSU. If he’s a Round 1 pick, though, he’ll have a lot to consider when it comes to college vs. the minor leagues.
