USA TODAY Sports releases 'way-too-early' top 25 preseason poll
USA TODAY Sports has joined the long list of publications that have issued a preseason top 25 poll for the 2020 college football season.
The usual suspects are at the top of the list as the outlet went as generic as can be by putting Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU and Oklahoma at the top of its list.
In an interesting move, the SEC has only six teams on the list and only three in the top 10. Georgia is not among them, which could prove to be a big mistake considering the level of talent on hand in Athens and the return of so many defenders on Kirby Smart’s defense.
Several non-Power 5 programs also made the list as the likes of Boise State, Memphis and Cincinnati are also on the list.
Here’s how USA TODAY Sports currently has the top 25 ranked heading into spring football:
#1 Clemson
#2 Alabama
#3 Ohio State
#4 LSU
#5 Oklahoma
#6 Oregon
#7 Penn State
#8 Florida
#9 Notre Dame
#10 Iowa
#11 Georgia
#12 Michigan
#13 Auburn
#14 Texas
#15 Memphis
#16 Cincinnati
#17 USC
#18 Wisconsin
#19 Texas A&M
#20 Boise State
#21 Iowa State
#22 Baylor
#23 Cal
#24 Washington
#25 North Carolina
Yawn.
Double yawn.
Anything Dan Wolken is involved in is complete garbage. Next.
Michigan and Notre Dame continue to get way too much love each and every year.

Yeah, it’s preseason, so who cares but I’d love to hear the rationale for Michigan and Notre Dame’s spots.
Agreed—like clock work, the media tries to make fetch happen with ND, Texas, USC, and/or any combo thereof. It’s just ridiculous. Just because your grandfather was a fan of ND growing up, doesn’t make them good in 2020! How USC is even ranked—let alone in the top 15—is ridiculous.
And I hate UGA with every fiber of my football being, but how UGA isn’t top ten and Iowa (!!!) is ahead them is beyond nonsensical.
I would say LSU is overrated, but if Oklahoma is 5th, then LSU has to be top 4.
Yeah I just don’t get the media’s love affair with Oklahoma…they get in playoffs every year and get their a$$ kicked to prove they don’t belong..then their reward is being ranked in top 5 every preseason…
If Oklahoma is 5th, they can’t cram enough teams into the top 4. They’d have to do 3a and 3b, 4a and 4b.
We should know pretty quick (9/12) which of LSU or t.u. is overrated. It won’t hurt my feelings either way, but I sure don’t want to hear those horns crowing like they did after beating UGA.
Apologies for playing an unfortunately large role in bringing back their Michigan-esque idolization into the CFB landscape.
Most of these are based on name recognition only.
