Value on SEC players changes with updated Heisman odds
Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson and Georgia tailback Nick Chubb are picking up steam nationally according to Bovada’s updated Heisman odds for July.
Johnson, a first-year starter in Gus Malzahn’s uptempo attack, joins the SEC’s top returning rusher at 10/1, a sizable increase since debuting at 16/1 in January.
Dak Prescott and Leonard Fournette, originally co-favorites to win college football’s most prestigious honor at 7/1 behind Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott, have dropped to 12/1 and 14/1, respectively. Alabama’s Derrick Henry opened at 14/1, but has since fallen to 16/1 with the updated odds.
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin is the new betting favorite at 6/1.
The most interesting change is Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, believed to be the Buckeyes’ third-team quarterback when Heisman odds opened six months ago. Miller has leaped teammates J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones from 18/1 to 10/1 entering the season.
Jones, who led the Buckeyes to wins over Alabama and Oregon last season, opened at 14/1 and has dropped to 20/1. Placing a bet on Miller way back in January now has tremendous value.
