There’s no question LSU is ‘DBU’ according to Tigers safety Rickey Jefferson.

In a recent interview with The Advocate, Jefferson said LSU’s secondary uses a ‘DBU group text’ to discuss the title and mock Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves who in July at SEC Media Days claimed the Tigers’ unit was ‘not even close’ to the Gators’ strength at the back end.

What began as friendly back and forth on social media after the Gators dropped an offseason hype video with the claim has turned into something far more personal for the players involved.

“It’s something that’s real,” Jefferson said, according to The Advocate. “We take it seriously.”

Jefferson was asked if the Tigers had any defensive backs as talented as Hargreaves, who is widely-considered the SEC’s (perhaps college football’s) top cornerback this season.

“Yes sir,” Jefferson said, “and better, I would say.”

LSU has bragging rights after winning on Florida’s home field last season. Two weeks ago, Leonard Fournette reminded fans — and Hargreaves — of how it felt on Instagram.

The two teams meet again on Oct. 17 in Death Valley. Will the Gators return the favor?
