Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage suffered an ugly concussion — and possibly a seizure — during Sunday’s NFL game between the Texans and the San Francisco 49ers.

Savage was hit hard near his own goal line by 49ers defender Elvis Dumervil in the first half.

After being evaluated for a concussion following the hit, Savage returned to the field for one series — which probably was not a good idea. He was then replaced.

Predictably, the Texans were taking a lot of heat on social media for allowing Savage back in the game.

Savage was later officially ruled out with a concussion, according to the Texans’ public relations staff:

Savage was visibly shaken after the hit, and while on the ground, he had what very much appeared to be a seizure — or at least seizure-like effects.
